Event Info

We're not scientists or mathematicians, but we're fairly confident that Musikfest can be expressed by the following equation:

Musik + fest = awesome

Actually, the reality is probably slightly more nuanced than that, but it's still pretty close. 10 days in August, filled to the brim with music, food and fun in downtown Bethlehem, PA? Sounds pretty darn awesome to us.

Musikfest 101

An intro to all things Musikfest

With more than 300 performances across 10 days, the Musikfest experience can seem daunting to a first-timer. Don't panic, we've compiled a list of the basics you'll need to know in order to properly get your 'fest on.

The Basics

• Musikfest 2010 is set for Aug. 6-15.
• The 'fest literally takes place in the middle of downtown Bethlehem. We're talking closed streets and a million+ people.
• The easiest entrance-strategy is to
  use our satellite parking lots and shuttle system.

The Performances

• There are 14 stages; 11 are completely free and require no ticket.
• Only the shows at Sands RiverPlace and shows that are part of the Performing Arts and Candlelight Concert Series require tickets.
• Almost every musical genre conceivable is represented.
• Stages are called "platzes," a homage to the city's Germanic heritage (platz being German for "place").

The Food

• Food/drink is available to buy pretty much everywhere, and is sold using a ticket system.
• You can buy tickets at every platz.
• Musikfest has famous beverage mugs. They keep your beverages cold in the hot summer sun, plus you get a discount on beer refills. Also, you're helping us to reduce waste by using them.

Miscellaneous 'fest Knowledge

• ArtsQuest Members get special treatment and benefits at the 'fest.
• Facebook and Twitter are great ways to get the latest 'fest news.
• The very first Musikfest was held in 1984. 182,000 people showed up.
• The festival is presented by the non-profit arts organization ArtsQuest.
• All proceeds from the 'fest support The Banana Factory, ArtsQuest's community arts center & gallery in Bethlehem, as well as other non-profit groups in the region.

What's New for 2010

Musikfest is never the same twice. From musicians to themes, food and venues, each 'fest is uniquely its own.

Musikfest 2010 is shaping up to be uber-exciting! For now you'll have to take our word on that, but we'll be posting more info to prove it soon!

Official 'fest Rules

The 'fest is all about good times and there are a handful of rules in place to ensure good times for all.

The following are NOT permitted at the festival:

• Bringing outside food or beverages to the festival grounds
• Coolers and pitchers
• Removing alcoholic beverages from the site
• Pets, except personal assistance dogs
• Bikes, skateboards, roller blades and unauthorized audio or video equipment
• Laser pointers
• Unauthorized soliciting
• Weapons of any kind
• Reserved chairs or tables, except at ticketed venues and those reserved by ArtsQuest
• Smoking in any tented areas, indoor venues or RiverPlace seating sections
• Climbing on any scaffold towers or stages
• Swimming or wading in the creek, canal or river
• Defacing property within the Musikfest site (this will result in prosecution)
• Unauthorized audio/video recording

Please note that shoes and shirts must be worn on the festival grounds.
