Seth Kessel and the Two Cent Band is a musical project that focuses on new compositions and a shared love of early jazz and American roots music. Seth Kessel was a founding member of Izzy and the Catastrophics (ex-Izzy and the Kesstronics) and a multidimensional interpreter of Americana from rockabilly, jazz to old-time ballads. He has spent years on the road performing internationally and has shared the stage with the likes of Rancid, Snoop Dogg, Sublime and Rev. Horton heat to name a few. Saxophonist Gabriel Yonkler, with over 10 years of study and a graduate of DePauw University, has a solid foundation in be-bop which allowed him to excel in many diverse musical applications. Bassist Jason Bertone has years of experience performing in NYC playing in string bands from bluegrass to gypsy jazz, while having youthful roots in punk and reggae music.
The group has quickly become a fan favorite of roots music aficionados in New York, with lively sets that feature everything from unique original works to jazz classics, stomping klezmer or fiddle tunes played on saxophone! Seth’s growing desire to produce new music in a band setting, along with the other member’s enthusiasm for new sounds, the group added the multi-talented snare drummer and washboard player Yaeir Heber along with Jackson Hardaker, a jazz and classically trained trombonist originally from New Zealand, to round out a new collection of songs recorded in the spring of 2012. The group catches the sounds from a broad swath of the American roots tradition, from New Orleans to Washington Square Park. Their first studio album is slated for release in July of 2012.
