PHOTOPASS: Concert Photography
This is a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at Musikfest, one of the largest music festivals in the nation, with Brian Hineline, who's photographed hundreds of concerts over the past 15 years for Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and other publications. Participants start off in our Olympus Digital Imaging Center learning tips and techniques from Brian about taking fabulous concert photographs. Then it’s on to the festival grounds to shoot at the Musikfest free stages, including behind-the-scenes candids that the public doesn’t have access to. Capping it all off, you’ll work alongside Brian in the "media area" at the Musikfest’s Sands Steel Stage Soundboard!
BETHLEHEM, PA—GRAMMY-nominated folk and Americana group The Avett Brothers will headline Musikfest 2014 when they perform on the festival's Sands Steel Stage at PNC Plaza Thurs., Aug. 7, at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show are $40-$50 and go on sale Tues., Dec. 3, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and Fri., Dec. 6, 10 a.m., to the public. They'll be available at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.
Named one of Rolling Stone's Artists to Watch in 2009, The Avett Brothers have developed a loyal following thanks to their dynamic blend of folk, rock, country, bluegrass and pop. Formed in 2001 by brothers Scott and Seth Avett, the group released its debut recording, Country Was, in 2002 and hit the mainstream with its 2009 release, I and Love and You.
In 2012, The Avett Brothers released The Carpenter, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 charts and earned the group a GRAMMY nomination in the Best Americana Album category. The band followed up that success with its October 2013 release, Magpie and the Dandelion, which hit the Top 5 of the Billboard 200.
A popular touring act, the group has entertained audiences at sold-out shows and major festivals throughout the nation. In addition to its busy performance schedule, the band has appeared on prominent television shows such as Conan O'Brien, the Late Show with David Letterman, the Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and the PBS' Austin City Limits.
Media partner for The Avett Brothers Concert is WXPN. The 31st edition of Musikfest, set for Aug. 1-10, 2014, will feature more than 500 musical performances, as well as 60 food vendors, 45 artisans, fun family programming and more. For details on Musikfest 2014, please visit www.musikfest.org.
