Volunteer Positions

The full list of available volunteer positions is listed below. Please take a look over these descriptions before you register.

ArtsQuest Membership Information and Welcome Center:

Located at Spring and Main Streets. Knowledgeable volunteers provide information to visitors and offer special assistance to ArtsQuest members.

Base Operations:

Volunteers with festival knowledge manage radio communications during the festival. Special training session required. A great way to see how Musikfest operates.

Beer/Wine/Specialty Drink Staff:

Volunteers must be 21 years of age. Staff is rotated to serve in all aspects of the function: tap and serve beer, open bottles and serve wine, collect tickets, check ID of anyone ordering—a person must be 21 years of age to be served an alcoholic beverage in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. IMPORTANT: In accordance with Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board mandates, volunteers may not drink alcoholic beverages while serving in this function.

Children’s Art and Creativity Activities:

Energetic volunteers assist children at Banana Island.

Creek Crew (listed under Daily Setup in the registration form):

Wading in the water and walking along the banks of the Monocacy Creek to collect trash that has found its way to the creek. Volunteers will work in pairs.

Customer Service:

Answer phones and provide information to callers. Knowledge of Bethlehem, routes to Musikfest, parking and a thorough understanding of Musikfest. Must be friendly, patient and enjoy dealing with people.

Daily Setup:

Duties vary and include straightening and wiping tables and chairs, sweeping, raking, placing liners in trash barrels and general preparation of the site for daily operation. Volunteers must be able to lift and perform strenuous tasks.

Eco Squad:

Formerly the clean team, this group keeps the festival sites neat and clean and assists with recycling. Volunteers filling two evening shifts will get credit for 18 hours.

Gallery Shoppe:

Located at the Banana Factory, 25 W. Third St., Bethlehem. Volunteers with experience handling retail sales, high-volume cash and credit card sales and cash registers are preferred. Volunteers must attend a training session at the Gallery Shoppe prior to festival start date.

Green Team:

Volunteers with experience handling cash, counting receipts and preparing bank deposits.

Handwerkplatz Staff:

Assist craftspeople as requested and make sure site is neat and clean. Booth sit, if needed.

Hospitality and Entertainment Areas (American Diner, Dankeplatz):

Volunteers serve as hosts in the reception area, serve beverages and clean up during hospitality events. Volunteers with bartender experience are encouraged to volunteer at Dankeplatz. Volunteers must be 21 years of age.

Merchandise Areas:

Located at Americaplatz, Banana Island (cart, no tent), Festplatz, Handwerkplatz, Plaza Tropical (cart, no tent) and Banana Factory. Experience or willingness to learn retail sales, high-volume cash and credit card sales and cash registers is preferred. Merchandise areas include booths, tents, carts and Gallery Shoppe. Volunteers must attend a training session at the Gallery Shoppe prior to festival start.

Non‑Alcoholic Beverage Servers:

Serve soda, juice, tea and water.

Parking Attendants:

Control restricted parking areas and help direct traffic as needed. Volunteers must be 18 years old or older.

Press Center:

Volunteers host and escort the media and coordinate with ArtsQuest Public Relations staff. Public relations education and/or experience preferred. Sat.-Sun., 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 4-10 p.m.; Mon.-Fri., 4-10 p.m.

RiverPlace Ushers:

Take tickets and seat concert‑goers. People with quick reactions and strict discipline make good ushers. Volunteers must be 21 years old and be able to stand for at least two hours. No exceptions can be made to these requirements.

Safety Team:

Training is given to volunteers who search the festival grounds for hazards and fill out Incident Reports.

Shuttle Drivers:

Shuttle volunteers to and from Musikfest Central Parking area and all sites 7:45 a.m.-noon. Drivers will fill out special form and must have a valid driver’s license.

Stagehand/Stage Manager:

Join the volunteers who help “set the stage” for the many performances during the festival. Help with band set changes. Lifting required. New staging volunteers begin as stagehands and may be considered as stage managers as experience evolves.

Street Team :

Volunteers must be between 16 and 30 years of age, energetic and outgoing. Duties include playing games, giving out prizes and promoting festival events and sponsors. Volunteers will work in pairs.

Supervisors, Asst. Supervisors and House Managers:

Provide leadership and supervision for most functions. Musikfest experience preferred.

Supply Team:

Manage inventory to keep Musikfest stocked with souvenirs, ice, disposables and other materials. Some lifting is required. Drivers will fill out special form and must have a valid driver’s license.

Ticket and Information Booths:

Outgoing volunteers with knowledge of Bethlehem/Lehigh Valley and a thorough understanding of Musikfest take money, dispense tickets and return change. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Trolley Hosts:

Act as hosts/guides on the trolley. A script is provided and all volunteers must attend a special training session.

Ushers:

Take tickets and seat concert‑goers at Chamber, Candlelight, Vesper and Performing Arts Series concerts. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age.

Volunteer Hospitality Center:

Monitor the use of restrooms at the Luckenbach Mill, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and 4-9 p.m., and at City Hall/Americaplatz, 5-10 p.m.
