ArtsQuest Announces 2023 Musikfest Poster Unveiling
Family of artists to join Banana Factory’s First Friday event Dec. 2
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the past few months, an Allentown-based family of artists known as Maltas Con Leche (MCL) has been hard at work as artists-in-residence at the Banana Factory Arts Center in Bethlehem creating the 2023 Musikfest poster mural. This Friday, Dec. 2, members of MCL will join other artists as part of the Banana Factory’s First Friday event.
From 6-9 p.m., in addition to First Friday festivities like live music, glass blowing, jewelry making, painting and paper making demonstrations, attendees will have an opportunity to see the 40th anniversary Musikfest poster mural for the first time and interact with the creative team of artists responsible for its conception and creation.
Representing the Spanish heritage of a carnival, the colorful 2023 Musikfest poster mural not only commemorates the festival’s 40th anniversary, but also embodies the spirit and liveliness of the Lehigh Valley’s richly diverse culture. Celebrating around the mural’s center image, called a Vejigante, people happily dance among a rainbow burst of color and musical notes, against a colorfully rich backdrop that features the iconic SteelStacks nestled among hills and trees representing the City of Bethlehem.
MCL’s work with paintings, murals, live demos and teaching events highlight their shared passion of introducing art and culture into the everyday routine in people’s lives. Led by father Rafael, the family of artists includes Luz, Esperanza, Binico, Caterina, Camila and Santiago, with ages ranging from four to 22. Each have equal say and input on the ultimate designs they paint together and are eager to meet with members of the Lehigh Valley community and publicly display their work.
According to Rafael, MCL has been working as a family since 2012 and are excited to show the different forms of art and talent they have to offer, individually and as family.
Regarding the 2023 Musikfest mural, “Culture was our main inspiration,” said Rafael. “We all brought what culture and music meant to each of us.”
“This inspiring design reflects the beauty and richness of who we are as a community and honors the diversity we celebrate via the sights and sounds at Musikfest annually and all the programming and artistic experiences ArtsQuest presents year-round,” said ArtsQuest President and CEO Kassie Hilgert.–

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Durante los últimos meses, una familia de artistas de Allentown conocidos como Maltas Con Leche (MCL) han estado trabajando arduamente como artistas en residencia en el centro de artes Banana Factory Arts Center en Bethlehem creando el cartel mural de Musikfest 2023. Este viernes, 2 de diciembre, los miembros de MCL se unirán a otros artistas como parte del evento del Primer Viernes de Banana Factory.
De 6 a 9 p.m., además de las festividades del Primer Viernes como música en vivo y demostraciones de soplado de vidrio, fabricación de joyería, pintura y fabricación de papel, los asistentes tendrán la oportunidad de ver por primera vez el cartel mural del 40o aniversario de Musikfest e interactuar con el equipo creativo de artistas responsables de su concepción y creación.
Representando la herencia española de un carnaval, el colorido cartel mural de Musikfest 2023 no solo conmemora el 40o aniversario del festival, sino que también representa el espíritu y la vivacidad de la rica diversidad de la cultura de Lehigh Valley. Celebrando en torno a la imagen central del mural, llamada “vejigante”, las personas bailan alegremente entre un estallido de colores del arco iris y notas musicales en un rico fondo colorido que presenta al icónico SteelStacks enclavado entre colinas y árboles que representan a la ciudad de Bethlehem.
La obra de MCL con pinturas, murales, demostraciones en vivo y eventos didácticos destacan su pasión compartida por introducir el arte y la cultura al diario vivir de las personas. Dirigida por el padre Rafael, la familia de artistas se compone de Luz, Esperanza, Binico, Caterina, Camila y Santiago, cuyas edades oscilan entre los cuatro y los 22 años. Cada uno tiene la misma voz y aportación en los diseños finales que pintan juntos, y están ansiosos por reunirse con los miembros de la comunidad de Lehigh Valley y exhibir públicamente su obra.
Según Rafael, MCL ha estado trabajando como una familia desde 2012, y están muy emocionados de mostrar las distintas formas de arte y talento que tiene que ofrecer, individualmente y como familia.
Con respecto al mural de Musikfest 2023, Rafael dijo: “La cultura fue nuestra inspiración principal. Todos aportamos lo que la cultura y la música significan para cada uno de nosotros”.
“Este diseño inspirador refleja la belleza y la riqueza de quiénes somos como comunidad y honra la diversidad que celebramos mediante las imágenes y sonidos en Musikfest anualmente y todas las experiencias artísticas y de programación que ArtsQuest presenta durante todo el año”, dijo Kassie Hilgert, presidenta y directora ejecutiva de ArtsQuest.
